102 & 103!! Merc & Nuther Washington!

I've been to this very expansive area about a dozen times. Got an early start so decided to detect my way to the furthest point and then work my way back. Because there are so many fallen trees down on the forest floor it's a real bear to hunt as you can't really do a pattern. It's basically a crapshoot, point yourself in a direction and hope for the best. But the nice thing is that the entire area has been forest since Cleveland was settled. And that's over 200 years. And at the furthest point is where I found my first 2 Large Cents. So the whole area is just very old.

I made it to where I found the LC's in a little over 2 hours. Not much to show for it other than some junk and under a buck in clad. Well, now I have to detect my way back but climbing over logs and such was getting a little tiring. So I decided to take the trail along the ridgeline back to a big pine tree area. About thirty minutes into working just one side of the trail, I get this screamer high tone 28, 29 signal. Right along the very edge of the trail.

Pinpointer can't find it on high!!! That's a good sign. Target it from two points and dig it. Pull out a 43 Merc first. ???? Put the pinpointer in the hole and got a strong hit straight down. Pop another inch or so at the bottom of the plug and I have a 44 Washington. Merc was at 4 inches and the Washington just below at I'd say 5 to 6 inches. Rocky, sandy, compacted soil.

Couldn't be happier!! Rest of the search found me a little over $2 in additional clad in the pines and the pocket knife is from a few days ago. And I've got a pile of common tokens from the last few weeks I'll post tomorrow because it's supposed to rain.

Have FUN out there and HAPPY HUNTING!

Ed/ODF

Too iffy to stucco for you, or tuckpoint from my perspective, so go get em Wayne!!

Thank you Zach!! It continually amazes me that it's out there! Only thing I'm worried about is, "Where the hell am I going to find all this NEXT YEAR!". Sad

Going to have to do some real research over the Winter!

Thanks Scott! You know if I had to find colonial relics, well, I don't think I could do it. I'm so tuned to silver with the SE Pro, that if I ever find another gold ring, buckle, musket ball, instead of a pull tab or beaver tail, zincoln or shotgun headstamp, it'll be a flipping miracle. I am so tuned that I pass up 7-25, 7-26 signals, which may be IH's, because I've dug so many trash objects with the same tone, it's simply disgusting. The territory I cover is so vast that if I dug every iffy signal, I'd have to live 10,000 years to cover it all!

That's just the way it is though. I found a niche. I use it. Yes

Thanks up! I'll try. Got one per calendar day as of today. Going to be pretty tough after today. Was out five hours and am simply exhausted. Can't believe how many trees are down. Makes for a rough hunt! No
