4hrs. at a soccer field!
Quote this message in a reply
I spent about four hours at a local soccer field here in Hungary.  TONS of trash (thanks to those pull-tab throwing jerks!).  AT Pro Int'l with 4" sniper coil set at pro-coin, iron discr. at 40, sens. two notches below max.  I'm only posting the coins (sorry, no jewelry.....yet!!).
photo 1: socialist era coinage
photo 2: post-socialist, but out of circulation
photo 3: current and spendable coinage, for the coffee machine at the office!!

Nice catch Doc!! Those soccer fields can sometimes be loaded with modern coinage. And some jewelry. I've found handfuls of silver rings in the past at them. If you concentrate on the sidelines and around the goals that's where the majority of the change is. I guess it's from all the spectators jumping up and down in the excitement over the game. And they are a heck of a lot easier to hunt than wooded hillsides. But you hit the nail on the head about trash. Man, it's a nightmare. Those little round foil seals from fruit drinks and yogurt drive me nuts. We have 8 - 55 gallon drum trash cans surrounding one field where I work and sometimes it takes me 30 minutes to go around and pick up all the stuff "On the ground." before the mowers get there and make it a bigger nightmare. Racoons are to blame most of the time. They just love garbage. LOL.

What , no US coins?!!! I thought we spread our American crap all over the world.
too bad about the tabs , I like to dig any decent nickel (low conductor) signal out beyond the edges of the field. They often turn into nice finds.

MY local soccer field is total off limits the ground keepers run every body off who's not part of soccer league. Maybe one day....it will open up.....

I don't remember if it was here or another detecting forum, but somebody mentioned that it'd be a cool idea to intentionally drop an occasional "stinkin' Loncoln" while out-and-about....just to keep the younger (later) detecting generation on their toes....and to keep a constant flow of finds.  I got a bunch of pennies here which I've been holding on to if somebody collects them here (not everyday stuff, at least here in Hungary), but I may just throw a few next time out......that'd really confuse future archaeologists too (Hmm, imagine a lecture in 200 yrs.: "these relics are proof of American global expansion into Eastern Europe well before what we had previously thought!"  LMAO!!!!).
