About 12 years ago I bought a Baron Cointrax at a garage sale and installed the 2.2 chip in it. Nice machine that I'll probably never get rid of. It's nearly as customizable as a DFX but isn't quite as easy to program. No menu programming, just the row of LED's. Pretty easy to memorize if you use it much at all though. You can save user programs to eprom like the DFX. Both all metal no-motion and motion modes have independent 100 point discrimination settings. No matter how you set a DFX the TB is definitely deeper, both all metal and discriminate. That's with an 8" coil vs the White's 9.5".
The TB is nose heavy. The DFX is better balanced plus I do like the DFX's tone ID. I would like to find a 5.5" coil for the Baron but they're rare. I've always wondered if another brand of coil from something running about 12.5khz would work. Tesoro maybe?
