I went out today to do some detecting against my plans but I got all the Honey Do's done and took off for a few hours. No luck detecting, BUT, I was very happy to make this discovery today. This little guy was tucked under a broken branch next to a big tree in a 100 acre woods, probably sleeping. I picked him up to see if he was alive and well, which he was, then put him back where I found him and threw some leaves over him after I took the shot. I mean he stuck out like a sore thumb and the coyote population is rising here so I wanted to make sure he didn't turn out to be somebodies lunch. This is the first time I've ever found a tortoise in the woods in my entire life. And I've spent a ton of time in the woods. If he would have stuck his head out I would have taken a pic of that but the colder temps probably have him sluggish. He was all closed up. It's good to see that they are survivors. He has 14 rings to each plate. He's 14 years old!

Enjoy!

Ed

Cool!!! You should've taken it, Ed, it even has your initial on its shell! Do you see the letter E that I do? Ha! Your own monogrammed turtle. That's what you get the man that has everything!

Joe,

That E is the first thing I saw. Guess I was meant to find him. Believe me, I would have liked to bring it home, but it's better off there in its' home. I emailed the photo to my wife shortly after I found him and she called me and said bring it home. I told her the same thing. Leave nature to nature. It was an uplifting experience enough and with a photo to boot. Dear God I love the woods!
