New Wireless Headphones

My hunting partner Gerry uses the Deteknix wireless headphones, and he really likes them, with the exception of the earphones being a bit on the small side, and the battery sometimes seeming to be quite short (especially in colder weather). They work fantastic though, and have no perceptible delay in transmitting tones from the wireless transmitter to the headphones, as I listen to many of his signals, and the sound & clarity is great.

I heard about these recently, and they might be an improvement over an already excellent product (Deteknix).

From the looks of it, the headphones that come with this wireless system seem to be of a higher caliber.

Bear in mind, I have not tried these, but according to the specs & the visuals, they look pretty awesome. If they work even nearly as well as the Deteknix's, they're winners.

On kinda the same token Minelab is releasing Pro Sonic, it is suppose to be compatible with any detector and head phones you already have.
I have the wireless modual that came with my 3030 and it's great, I can't tell any lag time , it can be used as an external speaker clipped close to your ear also. I think this is the same unit with a separate transmitter / receiver.

Repackaged product from China placed into the same Proear headphone http://www.proears.com/Ultra-Series shells used by Killer Bee's, Detectorpro etc.  Your basically getting Deteknix guts in a different package IMO.

You can do the same, I thought about it....see below.

Here's where you can find wireless headphones, major supplier from China.
You can get a fantastic deal on a sample pack of 10-12 pcs. $15.00 a set.
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/H...0.0.l292lo
Dealers sell these to detectorists in the UK for about $130. If you look real closely, you'll see some that look like Detek......

Same company with other headsets. http://www.szwirelessheadphones.com/product.asp or

Here's my favorite source for headphone shells:

I heard the audio on the wireless system on the CTX via guy I hunted with a few times, sounded excellent, B.T. The corded headphones don't bother me, but it would be super nice to go cord free, especially in wooded areas.

Good points, Sven. I saw this demo on Youtube a while ago, if I don't buy a set-up, I just might do this mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipkBMqcBVCM

Pretty amazing that all of these wireless systems can operate with virtually no lag time.

I'm sure the manufacturers are making a mint off all these things. It's pretty simple to pop a wireless receiver into a pair of headphones, and the adapters are mostly plastic, so, the markups must be huge.

Things have changed a lot in the last few years where headphones are concerned. It's hard to get any specs to the ones you showed in the OP Joe but I think they're Bluetooth which has given everyone fits when applied to detecting because of the delay. I'm still not sure if Makro ever got their issues worked out or not. I have been down the road with Rapoo's and Deteknix and both have their shortcomings as far as working on all detectors goes. If the Minelab works universally they will be a technical hit but I suspect the cost will deter many,,,,probably be in excess or $200 without headphones which is nuts , especially in a clumsy a$$ box like the WM10 which works well but is an ergonomic joke. The only one that appears to have gotten it right is XP with their WS-4 receiver and back phones unfortunately it only works for the Deus. It would be great if they could come out with a universal transmitter that would link up to the WS-4 receiverYes

Well, anything coming from Minelab is pricey Wink

I find that as the hobby further progresses, and technology advances, it's turning into a major money suck. Wireless headphones, fancy digging shovels, expensive leather finds pouches, video cameras to record our hunts, new pinpointers being released every other week...there's a lot coming at us at warp speed. But the reality is...

Virtually all of these gizmos aren't needed. They're nice to have, and sometimes help make things easier, but let's not forget the #1 rule in the hobby...

Location, location, location Yes

I would easily give up most of the "toys" for access to better hunting locations, or to be blessed with better mapping skills. If one has these, all that's needed would be a simple $200 detector and a lowly garden trowel. And you would dig more/better finds than 99% of others in the hobby.

But the fancy gadgets bring in a lot of money for the manufacturers, so I don't see that train slowing down anytime soon.

For what it's worth, as I mentioned above, Dusty, I did try my buddy's Deteknix's, and if there was a lag, it was virtually non-existent to my ears. They work real well. But he's always getting caught up and snagged in the headphone wire, so there was a need there. As for me, I don't mind the wires one bit, but not having any would be a nice bonus.

I like what is happening with the wireless headsets but still on the fense about switching from the cord.
My concern is not the delay. I am concerned that the lack of ohms will miss stuff that the corded headphones will pick up if you can slow down enough and separate the signals,
Thanks for the updates I enjoyed reading about this stuff.

I had headphones with my Safari and they had volume adjustment knobs on each side, the headphones that came with the CTX do not have any adjustment, have to adjust the volume in the machine.
If I were buying I would make sure that the set has adjustment knobs.
That way you can crank the volume on the detector and adjust it to your liking in the headphones.
Also make sure what you buy has good ear cups, muffs whatever you call them. I have found on very windy days the sets I've used didn't block all the wind noise . I was able to adapt but I'm sure there are better choices. I don't think Minelab includes the very best headphones in there package deals.
All that said , I don't feel I've missed any signals , at least when the wind wasn't 30 mph.
Headphones are a must have.

Just spotted these today. Seems Garrett's getting into the act now, too. I wouldn't necessarily say these are true wireless, as the headphones need to be corded into a module, but close enough...

That appears to be a pretty well engineered set-up from Garrett . Good for them.
At $130 it will probably be half the size and half the price of the barnish offering from Minelab and with 30 to 40 hours of hunting time it will be hard to beat.

Minelab will probably sue Garrett nowHappy
