Any ideas? I am clueless.....It's brass, the opening is grooved, and it looks to be missing a retaining clip.

I believe you got the right ID Medic; nice call.  I was in the dark til I read your first post, then did a little reading and saw very similar pics when I googled the various types of reeds. Someone here nearly always provides a good ID for puzzlers.
