Nothing to show but story to tell

While my wife went to the casino I went to a park we pass every time we go. To start with this park is in the not so nice part of town but no one was there so I decided to give it a try. It was kind of what I expected really trashy but once I got my settings somewhat stable I started finding some clad. I wasn't there no time when all these kids about maybe 7-12 years old showed up from the neighborhood. Wanted to know what I was doing when I showed them I was digging up coins they start asking all kinds of questions about metal detectors and was digging the coins up themselves. I told them they could have them if they were made after 1964 so long story short I gave away about 3-4 dollars in change. No silver but had lots of fun with the kids. I left before dark just to be safe. May go back if I ever get a small coil.

I was just happy to see the kids having so much fun, and that I didn't get harassed by any one else. These kids look like they needed more attention than what they were getting.

Maybe not addicted but it sure open there eyes to it. I'm sure it will be something that they talk about and remember for a long time.

Redd, at the end of the day, this pasttime is not only about the finds, but the stories, as well. Let's face it, we probably get skunked a LOT more than we do not, but the one thing we ALWAYS go home with is a good tale..

Might be popping open a plug and getting a dirt sandwich thrown in ones face (which has happened to me more than once or twice), getting hassled by the law or busybody pedestrians, seeing something odd or even beautiful in the place we're hunting, the playful ribbing we might enjoy with our hunting buddies, or a million other things. The stories are half the fun, IMO.

To be honest, most of the time I don't have any issues with a friendly kid or two coming up to me with questions. Provided they don't hang around TOO long, and cut into my detecting time, lol. Seriously though, we need to look at it from a kids eyes...

We all had that feeling of wonderment when we were younger, at things like rockets, model planes, go-carts, or the millions of other things that kids get stars in their eyes over. Kids love asking questions and finding out how things work. It's part of their learning growth. That you took the time to help spur their imagination, and sense of awe, is damn cool in my book Happy
