Hell, who wants too follow you guys?? Haha, incredible finds guys!

Here is my most exciting...an 1890-s double eagle found with a sov. Excuse the crappy pic...sold this when times got tough, had to pull the pic off of treasure depot finds of the year, 2003. Had a crappy camera back then. Ray

Hahaha, D.R. if you see how much junk I had to dig through to get those few finds, your head would spin, lol. I'm happy to get out and get a few mercs & barbers...everything else is gravy. Couldn't pull it off this morning though, I tried a new spot and got skunked.

You posted the pic after I posted, D.R.,...what a find!!! Geez, you guys don't play around. Answers, we want answers! Beach, land? How deep?

Shame you had to let it go, but still, at least you had the privilege of finding that beauty. That's one more gold coin than most detectorists will ever find in their lifetime Wink

Well there is a story..was an emotional day! I had eyeballed an old house that was raised to pour a new foundation. I got up to go to work one morning, go to my truck, and find some ahole had broken in my toolbox and stole some tools...AGAIN! I was pissed, and decided screw work, I'm going to hunt under that house. First hit with the sov, loud shallow hit, rang like a big silver, and out popped this sucker! First thought was its one of those chocalate coins, then I noticed the weight and it started to hit me...holy crap! Of course me and two buddies went back and hammered it, found about 40 coins between us, but no more gold. Ray

Bet you're glad you took off from work THAT day, huh D.R.? You sound EXACTLY like me, lol. 'Awww f@€k, I have a hang nail, I'm in no condition to work today...I'll go detecting instead'. LMFAO :P Big Grin Reality usually sets in when I'm riding home covered in dirt with about 43 cents in my finds pouch though Cool

That's an amazing find of a lifetime, with a cool story to match!

Nice going Ray on the gold coin . Still have not found one yet but it's a dream in my head . Seems like more gold coins are found in the Nor.Cal areas than down here in So.Cal location is the key to finding them . Awesome find Ray big time !

Nice finds guys!!

I no longer use the sov. But I hunted it iron mask mode and discriminated out the small iron.

Ran the Sunray 180 meter on it with a Sunray inline probe. Boy that sucker was heavy.

I switched to the Explorer in late 99 and ran both for about 6 months. Finally sold the Sov in order to give the Explorer a fair chance. Was an Explorer die hard (XS and E2) until I bought the CTX last year.

E2 is the best Explorer and still is one of the best machine I have used. The CTX lacks some of the benefits of the E2 as far as tones and ID, but it does work in the iron a bit better.

First day with the CTX is iron/junky sites I had pounded with the Explorers and E-Trac. Finding bigger silver in placed I had hunted hard convinced me that the CTX had a little extra benefit in the junk. (1st Image)

Then a week later the Morgan popped out of a small area that 3 of us had hunted and gridded several times. It was standing on edge at 8 inches. That was a nice surprise for a park! It was within feet of other barbers that came out of this area, so I know our coils had passed over it before. But you can't dig what you don't hear.

CTX ever since.

That Morgan is a thing of beauty, Ron! Another coin on my wish list. So, from what I've been hearing, the CTX is about on par depth wise with the Explorers & Etracs, however, where it really shines is with the quicker recovery speed in trash. It really excels at pulling keepers situated around iron/junk. Would this assessment be correct, Ron?

Hi Ron, I was hoping you would chime in on the ctx. I really had no interest untill Keith Southern started giving his reviews on it, now Im selling some detectors to take the plunge. Do you have a small coil for it??
Btw, I got ya beat on the sov...yeah ran it with the probe, the meter AND the old solid white 12inch sunray...thing was heavy and awkward, especially since it was ducttaped together, but it kicked ass in the turf...

Ron isn't it a great feeling to pull oldies from iron/trashy pounded sites ? Especially when you and buddies have vacuumed up all the good signals and deepies and then put the site on the cleaned out list . I find myself in awe when it happens to me . Makes you think how did I miss that before ? Looks like your doing well with the CTX nice finds Ron !
