Two more deep wheat cents and a one piece navy button
Quote this message in a reply
Had to get out there before my chores kick in tonight to Wednesday night.
I had stuff to do so I stayed local - I really have to go to other areas real soon - this area is really tough on finding silver these days,
I dug two deep wheat cents around an area where they cut an old tree down to the dirt.
I was able to get real close to the big exposed roots near the base of the tree and that is where they were hiding. One is a 1909 plain but it was hit by a lawn mower a long time ago. The other is a 1944 cent.
I also found a one piece Navy button - it is about the size of a penny and it rang up as penny/dime.
Oh I put oil on the pennys so they might appear shinny -
Good luck out there -

Good technique on going after the hard to find items and bringing them to daylight. Next time it might be a dime or quarter hiding there--and you'll get them.

That tree root hunting is tough! I remember last summer almost killing myself to wind up with a 60D memorial under a 6 inch tree root! Glad you were able to dig out the 2 wheats! Great find on the Navy button!!

Thanks guys, I love tree root finds - they take a little longer to work but can be rewarding. Today's pin pointers help plenty when digging around roots and or nails in the hole.
I got a early memorial cent in between two iron nails today. I heard the penny\dime signal and the iron grunts. I was hoping for at least a wheat cent but those early memorials must have more copper in then, that is why they sound louder.
Happy hunting - to all

Sweet button dude! The nice coins and relics seem to take cover under those big roots don't they. They make us work for it, but its worth it!

Relic dude, yes they do and I don't mind when I find them. After all - I could be digging in another spot and taking just as long as under the roots.

Nice finds! Good job on jumping on the opportunity. Those roots can be unforgiving. Breaking tools, and hurting your wrist. Need a battery operated sawsall. I have walked away from some spots not have the tools to remove. Always wonder what I left, I keep telling myself it was just a copper penny. Lol. Love the navy button, my father was in the navy, and ships and anchors have always been cool. Congratulations!

I sometimes carry a small hole saw when I hunt. Very sharp and cuts through two inch roots like butter.
