UK Beaches - Metal Detecting Laws?
Quote this message in a reply
Hiya,

I'm just wondering if anyone else here is from the UK and would know any information about the laws regarding free metal detecting on public beaches within our country?

I've seen many people do this already but I'm not sure if there's any laws or if they would have to get permission from the relevant council etc to be able to hunt their?

Also, if you do find anything would it own to you or would you have to share it with the council / district area?

Thanks,
Andy.

In England, they have a national antiquities board, but, not sure if the U.K. has same.

Best to do a google search & see what you come up with Wink Better to be safe than sorry. Last thing you'd want is to find a hoard of valuable buried coins only to have your house raided by the police :P By the way, what's the proper terminology for the word police in the U.K.? Metro?

I am in England, UK :P

I will have to check up on the local laws regarding public areas of interest here, like you said if I'm lucky enough to find anything I don't want it to be confiscated off me.

When searching for National Antiquities Board it's just coming up as Finland, nothing to do with England or the UK hmm...

Their called Police too, Metropolitan Police technically but just Police for short Wink
