What machine finds half's and large dollar us coins?
Quote this message in a reply
Hello folks, I read a post on another web site about testing halves and large dollar US coins before the spring thaw.
Well, I wasn't really surprised because I have discussed this in the past with folks in the club I am a member, but only briefly. Today's test was revealing - my Minelab Exp II didn't do a terrific job on ID'ing a 1944 walker, a 1967 Kennedy half and a 1971 Ike US large doallar. Sound was good overall but the display screen did hit top right and bounced to the left side and or just jumped around. I even tried different sounds settings and got similar results. The condcutive and ferrous numbers were crap - no where near what you would think the numbers should have been,
I would have assumed that these coins would lock on a good location and stay there for multiple swings of the coil but nope, didn't do that -
Any suggestions?
Any other machines do better? I just might switch or eliminate stuff that is descriminated out.

Never done a test on those coins. I know the ones I've found have cornered to the upper right consistently because I always swap screens and check. I have my IM set at 12 or 16 depending on how bad the mineralization is. Maybe I'll try that test tomorrow. Yes

I think all detectors will hit those coins but people are so intent on eliminating iron wrap around from high conducting decomposed or large iron that they inadvertently disc part of those signals out. If you leave it open , they will come. A common suggestion by a well known detectorist recommends that , when using the Deus , a person can notch out 97 to 99 on the VDI to quiet it down from falsing. It will kill large silver and highly conductive coins every time. I think air testing also may push the overload circuit to the max. Try putting an inch or two of dirt on the coins and see if your VDI stabilizes once you're sure the areas of disc are open and I'll bet they come in kicking and screaming with solid IDs.

Ok ODF, let me know what happens.

Dusty, I was thinking of the left top which would be iron wrap around. I'll have to do more testing. This could be an interesting year if I can get it right.

The AKA Berkut hit the Silver Dollar with a high tone.
ID's #84 out of 99 and gives a straight Hodograph line like other silver coins.
I always have a Silver Dollar handy when doing tests. Learned my lesson after finding out about wrap-around.

I learned something reading this thread.

I have 3 best friends. Their names are Ace 350 , AT Pro ,  and a Fisher F 75 but I like people too.

Kajunman - I always say that you have to bench test at home before going out.
I want to find more larger coins and would love for folks to add to my post and get this off to helping all of us.

Tony I found a 67 half. Those are 40% silver. My AT Pro and Coinmaster GT along with the 350 sing when the coil is over that coin. Never tried it with my F 75.

Kajun dude, good to know and thanks for checking.
I found a 1967 last year and it was down about 7 or 8 inches. The minelab said dime quarter - I remember because I was so surprised when it came up - I was hoping for a silver dime but still a cool find.
Congratulations on yours!
