I haven't a clue but tend to agree with a garden piece. I think the coffin decoration unlikely, although plausible. At first I though maybe a fence decoration for a rose garden which lead me to the garden piece. But in that it seems to have no attachment posts, it must be some sort of plaque. That's going to be a tough one to ID. Try Collectors Weekly.

I've seen similar fabrications on trunks and desks. My best guess would be from a piece of furniture.

More than likely its a topper to a rod iron gate.
