I found this in the German park today. I thought it was old but then saw writing on the back and figured it was newer. then is saw something on the internet that made me think it might be older. it appears to read "extra rich" on one part and "orange col" on another, and another word starting with W. Can someone educate me as to it's age and origin? thanks

That is a very old button -- we usually call them Flat Buttons due to the fact they are flat and not concave or rounded. Most we find have no design but occasionally they will have something on the front and many have backmarks. Early button makers marked them. The Extra Rich & Orange Col referred to the gold gilt that the button originally had. Early marketing !!
I would guess Early 1800's (1815--1840) ?? just a guess on the dates.
.
Thanks for the info. It looked old but the writing fooled me.
Good find!
I love finding buttons.
I found one from period of the War of 1812 here in the US.
One day I will take it out and post it!
Great find! There's gotta be more stuff there! GOOD LUCK!
