Found a couple of articles that are related to us who travel the woods for detecting and found some interesting info. Note the reference in the article from Dr. Stone about the Japanese Barberry bush. Very interesting.

Hope this is a helpful thought because I am literally bathing in Repel 40 and Deep Woods Off and there has to be a better alternative. Although they do not mention Permethrin use on bare skin.

I killed 2 ticks that jumped on my hand the day I found that little blue bottle. I didn't know about treating your clothes with permethrin. The ticks are all around here with all the dear. Even in our backyard.
Good Info-- I ordered some!!
Thanks for posting that site.

I purchased a tick puller online about 6 years ago, It is aluminum and has a slot type hole. You place it over the tick and pull straight backwards.
I was bit once in upstate NY and my club buddy used it on my arm. Man did it work - it yanked the sucker out head and all. I yelled a bit because it pulls it out and your skin comes along with it.

You can find these all over the internet. When I purchased mine it was around five dollars US. Today they might be a bit higher -
