SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah man got a surprise when he stopped to pull a large orange bag off the highway, fearing that it would become a traffic hazard.

The Deseret News reports the 75-pound bag tumbled out of a truck driving in front of Dan Kennedy on Interstate 80 on Tuesday. When he looked inside, he found stacks of cash.

"I thought it was going to be light. I reached down to grab it, and I couldn't move it," Kennedy said.

Approximately 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide, the sack was filled with smaller bags packed with currency including $50 and $100 bills. Kennedy estimated each of the small bags contained $22,000. It was unclear Thursday how much money the entire bag contained.

Kennedy tried but failed to chase down the Brink's armored truck that had lost the bag. He then drove the money to his work parking lot and called the police. The three Utah Highway Patrol troopers were "stunned" at the bag of money, Kennedy said.

"Never in all my years have I heard of a bag of money bouncing out of the back of an armored truck," said trooper Brady Zaugg. "That's something that happens in the spy movies."

Kennedy said it never occurred to him to do anything other than turn in the money. He hadn't disturbed it at all, so he obviously did the right thing for the right reason," said Zaugg, who said Kennedy reported his find to the police immediately.

Brink's employees told police they drove over a bad bump on a highway off-ramp but didn't notice the back latch opening or the bag falling out.

Kennedy said he hasn't heard anything about a reward for his good deed, but he was still excited by the unusual discovery.

"I was just jazzed all day long," he said.

Well, to be blunt, he's a better man than I!

That bag would've been in the trunk of my car quicker than a jackrabbit on meth. Just being honest Cool I know this is gonna sound weird, but...

If I found an inscribed ring, heirloom or similar type of piece while detecting, I would 1,000% return it, if I was able to get a lead. Matter of fact, that's one of the things on my bucket list in this hobby. Never had the honor of doing so. Make no mistake though...

To me, there's a world of a difference. A ring, trinket or something similar is personal. It once belonged to an individual. There was/is an emotional connection to the piece. It is only right it be returned. On the other hand...

An armored car company is a business...one that's insured, to boot. As is the institution they're hauling the loot for. Both of whom probably have more money than all of us combined on this forum. So, nobody is really out anything. Further...

If the lugs were dumb enough to lose it, screw'm!

This world isn't just black & white, folks, there exists a grey area, too Wink

If it was the 70's when I was younger, it would have been in the back of my truck pronto and I would have languished in the riches until the cops came.

Now though, I would have called Brinks first. Not the cops. I would've said, "You dumb asses dropped a huge bag of money off the back of one of your trucks on Highway ________, and I found it laying there in the middle of the road. So you better come and get the flipping thing before I call the cops and make you guys look like a lame brain security service when it hits the local TV stations and internet."

INSTANT 10% reward!

Maybe more.

I like rewards and oh yeah let me see ----- do I like cash?

This is harder then giving up the rev war breast plate at the museum dig two years ago.... so I am still thinking, I'll get back to you
Guys, come on!!! Both the bank AND the armored car joint are fully insured. It's not like some little old lady would be out of her life savings. Gotta be smart though...

Don't spend ANY of it for about 2 years. That way, in the extreme longshot they trace it back to you, you still have the loot and can hand it over claiming ignorance. If, after a couple of years nobody comes a knockin...

Paint the town red!!!
