Been looking to get to this area for the last three months. Reason I hadn't is because I would rather take a half hour hike there in upper 50 degree, drizzly, rainy weather, (like we had today) than try and hump to it in the 80's with high humidity.
Okay. So I made it there alive, I'm in ten minutes and hit 8 wheats and a Buffalo all within a 12" square area. I'm pumped now. Another toasted wheat 12 feet away. I'm going nuts by this point. Another 25 feet away, SERIOUSLY, right under the moss next to a big oak tree, screaming a blistering high tone and a solid 3-28 on the digital, which I think at first has gotta be a can lid, I see One Dime on the back, and then HOLY CRAP, it's a SEATED! I almost had a stroke. I had to find a log and sit down.
Then after calming down and looking over the area, which ain't that big, I did a grid search for the next three hours. And nothing but that thing I think may be a plated wedding band and one boatload of 12 ga and 410 ga headstamps!!
So ends another day. But I'm HAPPY! My Father was born in 1917. That date always brings me luck!

WOW, a seated!!! That right there is a rare one, Ed. Go back and cover that spot like white on rice, could be more. That was in circulation for a while, and was used often, before being dropped, going by the wear. If I had to guess, I'd say it was lost sometime around the turn of the century. That's one of the reasons silver coins can come up so much lower on the VID scale than we think is possible...because they're worn. I've had very worn silvers hit in the indian head range...or lower. And if they're deep, the signal might be off even more. That's why I generally dig anything foil and above on the deepies.

Ya know I've been digging the crap out of those iffy's and haven't had any luck, lately. The ground mineralization in this spot isn't really too bad but I covered all the areas I could get to without any other major finds. Now on the other hand, there's quite a bit of high grass inundating the area. So what I think I may do is wait for Winter or the Spring thaw to get to those spots as they are a good part of the site. Amazingly, I bumped into a Ranger escorting 2 female Park Biologists who were doing biological diversity studies in the swamps below and let me tell you, I have no idea how they got through there without a machete! And he didn't ask to see my permit. He and I bullshitted about five minutes before the two Biologists made their presence up the ravine. Then off they went! So I'll wait. Took me three months to get there. Ground was hard as a rock even with the drizzle and rain. I wish you could see some of the areas I detect Joe, and I mean really. Little wooded islands of nowhere! You'd crap your pants!

You should see some of the "urban" spots WE detect, Ed, you'd SURELY crap your pants...if they aren't stolen right off your ass before that!
I'm really not surprised by the biologists not giving you any crap, as, from my own experience, most of those I've encountered in my pursuits that were on the job, have better things to worry about. Whenever a cop car rolls through when we're hunting, most just give a friendly wave and carry on. However, quite often, they'll even stop to shoot the shit. What are we finding, their brother-in-law owns a detector, yadda, yadda, yadda. It helps kill the clock for them, but more importantly, it nurtures relations, and it's always good to have the law on one's side. As long we are tidy in our digging, don't call attention to ourselves, and put a good public face on the hobby, 99.9% you'll have no problems anywhere. At least, that's been my experience.
