There's an old picnic area I used to do real well at, and MAN, there was enough foil to stretch around the earth. Balls of it, tiny shredded shards, a million different kinds. And I had to dig it, as it was a mid 1800's spot, so I was basically taking out everything that beeped. You are correct, there is a LOT of foil out there.
