Just finished modifying my 6000 di pro.
I have added a quick connect plug to the motherboard and battery pack(s) .
I bought (2) battery packs that hold 5 AA each, wired both in parallel giving me 6 volts. (1.2v x 5 = 6v) As you know, most AA rechargeables are 1.2v.
Using (10) 3000mah AA rechargeable batteries. Not sure if it lightening the load, but it will save me from buying those C batteries.
Modded in a way you could still use the original setup. Don't really know why someone would want too. But I left it like that anyways.

Good luck with it! Let us know how it works. Buying batteries is a real cost factor!

Saves on buying those big c-cells. Never liked them.
having rechargeables saves in the long run.

If possible any machine using 12 volts that I can convert to a lithium-ion rechargeable pack I will. They are smaller and lighter in weight.

Tried looking up for a ready made 6 volt lithium-ion pack, only could find 8.4v

You can also find some on ebay

Possible to use them in the White's, the voltage regulator on the circuit board should be able to handle them. You would have to inquire.

Here's another link for another alternative: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?22,1800002

Also read the weight of the c-cells were to help offset the balance to the boxes rear so the detector would not be as coil heavy.

Have fun
Thanks Sven, I tried finding a 6v rechargeable pack too. Not real common, I'm sure I could have made one. I have plenty of AA rechargeables for other devices so I just used them instead. Keep in mind, mine now has an S handle and I really shifted the weight to rear of handle. On white's detector I prefer to have the grip in front of the box. This help keep the dirt from falling on control box.
