Ran into this Tuesday this past week. About 8 feet up on a 30" diameter Cottonwood tree. 100 feet from the river in an old bog. They seem to be about 10 years old or earlier, made of oak and each screwed into the tree with Phillips screws. Makes you wonder the kind of history you're passing by while your looking at the ground.

Yeah your right Ed, it does make you wonder about the history.
Maybe there were paranormal investigators out there and they heard strange swishing noises in the leaves, followed by what sounded like someone digging a grave, some weird beeps and someone mumbling in a language they aren't familiar with...and the only words they could make out were '@#&*' and 'shotgun shell' Then the mysterious cycle of noises began again. They think it is someone dragging a body, digging the hole to bury it, they belive the entity saw them in the woods and is trying to load his gun but dropped the shell...they put the crosses in the tree to ward off the evil spirit that lurks in the woods...if they only knew it was you metal detecting and digging shotgun shells all day...
