I've always been fascinated by history, particularly the ancient and medieval days, and little remains from those eras apart from works in stone and metal. Unfortunately in the U.S. we don't really have such artifacts, but I like to follow news of astonishing finds in England and elsewhere anyway. (It was hearing about the Hoxne Hoard, and how the guy who found it was really just looking for his hammer, that I found amazing.) And occasionally people here will find something from the colonial or Civil War, which is interesting as well. What prompted you to get started metal detecting?

Personally, I couldn't stand history class back when I was in school. However, I've always been the inquisitive type, love mystery & the unknown, and have a bit of a gamblers mentality. So, I guess when you factor in all those ingredients, a treasure hunter is born...at least in my case, lol.

I also have a pretty mundane day job, a salesman who sits behind a desk all day. Being out playing in the dirt & acting like Indiana Jones on the weekend is a great release for me. Plus...

I find some really COOL stuff!!! Imagine being the first person to dig up a coin that's 200 years old & hold it in your hand. So many questions; Who dropped it? How did they drop it? It's literally uncovering history & trying to unravel it Wink
I was the kid that always found stuff everywhere I went . When I was 7 years old I dug my first silver coin while playing in the dirt digging holes in my back yard . It was a Franklin Half Dollar . Even as a kid finding treasure was exciting . A few years later I got my first detector for Christmas and that's what got me started in this hobby . Oh and I liked Pirate movies/stories too .
