Not something I would do personally, but are there people that actually make a good living out of metal detecting (apart from people in the army or whatever that search for mines)?

Aaahh, the age old question...
The comedic answer is: sure, you CAN absolutely make a living metal detecting...how cheap can you live though :P
The are a small (and I mean VERY small) number of hunters - mainly beach & gold guys - who make a living at this past time. However...
It's incredibly difficult IMO. Also, even if one COULD make a halfway decent income doing this, it then becomes work, not PLAY
