Did you try calling Garrett? I don't know from my own experience, but I have heard that they still work on older models.

You can send your older unit to Garrett but be prepared to have them try to sell you a new one at a discount. Thats not so bad.
But I just had them tell me that my underwater unit failed pressure test when I can tell from something I did prior to shipping that the unit was never pressure tested as they described their process. I hate being lied to. I have filed a complaint last Wednesday and am still waiting a response. Got me once. Never again

Used to be a place in texas called broken detector or something like that it is where garrett used to send all the older detectors I think .
