Was out recently and didn't find much of interest, (I thought), just the usual rivets, ox shoes, pocket watch parts etc. Today I took a closer look at one of the items in the pile, a brass key hole cover, with what I thought at first were some strange looking scratches. As it turns out-it is inscribed, in very old hand writing J. Stoddard. In addition, the company name on the keyhole is from the 1850s.
Maybe I'll be able to figure out who this guy was, probably not, but I do know that I have a piece of a very old trunk, and most likely the hand writing of a early pioneer.
