I've not had any time lately to detect because of taking care of my parents but I had a couple hours to go last Friday. This thing is awesome!! Date is 1857. How do I get the black off of it??

Fabulous find Ohio! That one is on my bucket list. I'd try Q-tip swabbing it with a mild solution of ammonia. Most people and coin collectors would leave it as is though. Gives the coin more provenance!

awesome find! Ed is right don't clean it , it affects the value , but if the value is more for display , Ed is right there too.  Thanks for giving great advice Ed.
