Got out last weekend with my buddy fluke & got my butt handed to me. We always have a great time & there's some friendly competitive fun too. He killed me last week on silver (I only got 2 Indians), so, was nice to know my detector still worked today, lol.

Nothing special but, 3 silvers...good enough for me anyday. Got a 41 Washington, a 64 Rosie & a 1917 merc that's paper thin & worn.

It was a fun day with fluke & aj, but short because of the blazing heat here in NJ. 95 & brutal humidity to match.

Thanks for lookin!
Nice going on the silvers ! What type of areas do you hunt ? Parks , lotts , demos , beaches etc ?

I hunt many different spots, Mike. As long as its old, I'm there Wink Mainly parks, Boy Scout camps, woods, etc. The problem with Northern NJ though is, 90% of our history is paved over. Can never have enough Walmart's or Starbucks, I guess Sad

After the heat & humidity start getting out of hand by late June, I switch gears and do more beach hunting. No bugs, stickers, overgrowth & that stuff to deal with. Just a nice breeze & plenty of eye candy to look at when swingin :P What about you, what are your preferred spots?
I hunt mostly old parks and demos when I can find them . In the hot summer months I slack off from the turf and dirt digging and head to the cooler beaches . It's much easier on the body scooping sand then digging deepies in the turf and dirt .

Hey NjNyDigger nice finds!

I'm no expert but those look like nice pieces. I really wish I had the time/know how to go out and do what you do. So tell me, what do you do with the things that you find? Collect? Sell? Melt down?

I keep 95% of what I find, except for the clad (regular modern coins) & the occasional gold piece I might find (which I send in for melt value). The older coins & relic type items represent too much work, sweat & digging to ever possibly sell. Plus, I'm a bit of a history nut, and get off on the fact that I was the person to dig something up that was in the ground for 100, 150, 200 years. It's a rush. I will be passing down my better finds to my son, who I hope will appreciate them as much as I do, someday Wink

Contrary to what many believe, and all the crap they show on tv shows, most hunters aren't in this pursuit for the money (cause there is none, lol). Rather, the majority of detectorists IMO enjoy the thrill of the hunt. The excitement. The friendly competitiveness. The history.

This is a disease to me. I would go out everyday if I could. Heck, I used to take days off from work (not paid) go out hunting & come home with only a few bucks in change...but I loved every second of it. And still do. Yep, the treasure bug got me for sure Big Grin

That sounds like a thrilling lifestyle. Right on to you! So once you find these things, do you have them appraised, do you look them up online? For example, the guys on all the fake "reality" tv shows have a go-to guy when it comes to putting prices on things. Do you have a guy? It must be such a friendly business, everyone exploring eachothers findings. Does it ever get competitive?
