general question I just found my 1st gold ring (the platina on it is black was able to scrap a bit off with my finger nail). What is the best way to clean it?
suggestions/recommendations.
Thanks in advance.
Do you have jewerly cleaner? If not spray it with some Windex.

Does it say the KT?

I have found 10kt rings and they become black with age in the dirt.

You can try baking soda mixed into a paste and rub the ring between your fingers with it. Or you can try regular old paste type toothpaste. Either will work so long as the toothpaste doesn't have peroxide in it. Most low karat gold rings, exposed to saltwater or even river water, will turn a blackish or charcoal color. Usually 8 or 6K. And if the ring does not have an inscription, well then it may be of a lower karat content. Which is important because common rings sold before the karat content was mandated by law are much older and very antique. So you may have an old find there Rock. Pics would be nice however. Pictures tell a thousand words, ya know. Congrats are in order though! Yes
