A Buddy and I hiked out to an old ranch. There are some new building on an old site.

Trip almost ended early!! As we were hiking we walked right over the top of him. It was literally about 6" from my buddies foot and about 18" from me. Fortunately he gave us a warning and just enough time to jump before he struck out!!

After getting to the site we found a few period items and then I got a nice keeper!!

It was a good adventure. Saw a bunch of Jack Rabbits and Coyote Pup.

You know you are in a good area when you find this type of barbed wire. This is 1860's wire.

Thanks for looking

Ron
Dang, Ron, how many seateds you up to now? I hope you guys wear snake guards when you go out, one bite from from a venomous snake will ruin even the best of detecting days. Dumb question...

Have you or any buddies ever been bitten, and if so, what's the fix?

Beautiful scenic shots & a beautiful seated to match Big Grin
My buddy had his snake boots on and my snake guards were in the Jeep!! Yeah, they are just so dang hot but I guess that is a small price to pay to avoid a trip to the hospital for some antivenin (Anti-venom) as that's the only real cure.

I have heard that a shot it pretty pricy and fortunately no one I know has had to find out exactly how much!! But I have heard horror stories of outrages costs associated with a snake bite.

Yeah, I think I will use the guards next trip!! Idea
Yeah that is a sweet looking seated Ron I bet you were jazzed when you saw that beauty . Do you see much modern trash at a site like that except for all the iron that im sure you come accross? Great pics and Mr Rattler looks alittle ticked off .

Usually not too much modern trash. This site has some as they still use the cattle area so you get the occasion can, pull tab etc.

But I only had to dig all this to get the dime!! Huh (3-4 hunts worth)

Ron has so many seateds already, he views them the way other detectorists do of memorials. Here's an excerpt I was able to get my hands on of Ron's last hunt...

'What is it, Ron, what is it?'

'Awww $h!t, it's another god damned seated for cryin out loud. Don't I ever find the good stuff!' :P :P :P
Yeah, seeing a old silver pop out of the ground never gets old.

Funny how you forget about the 2 tons of crap you had to dig to get it!!

Metal detecting-- the thrill of the hunt-- you either get it --or you don't!
That dimes in nice shape...looks like it was in same hole with iron. As far as mr rattler, I fish hogan a lot especially early spring. 2 years ago I walked up on three in about 20minutes, now I ddon't go in snake country without the snake guardz. Btw, my son works at the firestation...a week ago they got a call to lake Camanche... some flatlander thought he was Steve Irwin and got nailed in the bicep, lol.
How dumb are you if you get bit in the bicep?? Huh
Ron, I just looked at your pics again, that one with the barn is just incredible. I'm not really an art lover, but, I do appreciate good photos. And THAT is a great one! Did you take that with a smartphone, or, a dedicated camera?
