Ron, Micah...excellent calls! When I dug the mystery item, it was filthy, but, it appeared shiny in parts, so, I wasn't thinking silver much until I got her home and cleaned it up. Now...
When it first came out of the hole, it was bend up tightly into thirds. I immediately thought a woman used it as a beret. However, after cleaning & straightening it out, I did think the cover to a knife, as there's a couple of holes on the piece, which would be exactly where screws/rivets would go if it was affixed to a knife.
